SONG OF THE DAY Ibeyi – Exhibit Diaz

Signed to XL Recordings in 2013, the young French-Cuban twin sisters Naomi and Lisa-Kainde Diaz make up the duo that is Ibeyi.

Singing in both English and Yoruba (a Nigerian language that traveled to Cuba via slavery in the 1700s), their name translates as “twins”.  Their sound is deeply rooted in the traditions inherited from their father, the famous Cuban percussionist Miguel “Anga” Diaz who was a member of the Buena Vista Social Club.

Following the success of their self-titled debut album earlier this year, Ibeyi have just released a brand new song called ‘Exhibit Diaz’ which is their own reinterpretation of the Jay Electronica song, ‘Better In Tune With the Infinite’.  With a more jazzier spin on the original, their version sees the twin sisters turn Jay’s rap lyrics into a sung vocal line whilst adding rhythmic layers of percussion.

The duo have also announced their tour dates and will be hitting the UK in early November.
