SONG OF THE DAY Johnny Wells – Lonely Moon

Although this song was originally released by Johnny Wells in 1959, it was actually written by two young and unsigned songwriters, Joe Zellers and Alan Christian, who were part of a band called The Kingtones.  In the spring of 1959 they composed ‘Lonely Moon’ by combining Zellers lyrics with Christians sad minor chords.

At just 18 years old The Kingtones were looking to get signed, hoping to see their record released to the masses, but after a brief altercation with a potential label, the song was later sold and then released by Johnny Wells, their names are still present on the single.

Bringing the song to life in a whole new soulful way, Johnny Wells gives this track a swinging rhythm which I really enjoy. Equally as appealing, however, is the version recorded by the original songwriters which can be heard here
