I hadn’t heard of American singer-songwriter José James until tonight but found my ears prick up when I caught ‘Four Noble Truths’ playing on the radio. Taken from his 5th studio album, ‘While You Were Sleeping’ (released via Blue Note), James drew upon influences such as Nirvana, Frank Ocean, Radiohead and Junip when writing this record.
‘Four Noble Truths’ drew me in with its hypnotic percussive feel, where cutting snare beats merge with the crisp pitter-patter of the ride cymbal. It’s soulful, it flows and drifts sweetly along in flurry of strings and jazzy tones.
