It’s been two years since Deerhunter released their last album ‘Monomania’, but the Atlanta based band have just resurfaced with a brand new album that is set for release this October via 4AD. Following a car accident in 2014 that left front man Bradford Cox in hospital with serious injuries, ‘Fading Frontier’ not only marks the bands return to music but sees them come back with a slight shift in their sound.
The record has been made by founding members Bradford Cox, Lockett Pundt, Moses Archuleta and bassist Josh McKay with 4AD describing how ‘the group have shifted towards something strikingly balanced, focused on melody and texture. The songs are brighter; if not in content, then in the album’s production. Starkness plays against clutter in what is the band’s most complex yet accessible work to date’ and how, ‘ten years down the line, “Deerhunter have lost none of their intensity’.
Lead track ‘Snakeskin’ has just been shared with an interesting accompanying directed by Valentina Tapia which delivers a very funky introduction to their new material. Watch above.
Fading Frontier is set for release on 16th October 2015 on 4AD.
