SONG OF THE DAY Down Dirty Shake – Black Cat

The Down Dirty Shake are an aptly-based San Francisco psychedelic rock n roll band who claim that they are “here to magnetize your hips and excursive your lips”, a boastful notion perhaps, but they don’t call themselves Dirty Down Shake for nothing!

Forming in 2005 by the four founding members and deeply influenced by all things 60’s, their sound is inspired by latin, psych, soul, pop and garage rock with comparisons to The Velvet Underground, The Doors, The Animals and Creedence Clearwater Revival.

Taken from an EP that came out in November last year comes today’s song, Black Cat, which makes me think of Santana’s version of Black Magic Woman and how that would sound if you paired it up with the crooning vocals of Jim Morrison, it’s smooth, it’s soulful and it grooves.

They certainly carry off the psychedelic sound…
