SONG OF THE DAY Edgar ‘Jones’ Jones – Do Doh Dontcha Doh

If I had to date this song I know 2005 isn’t the first number that would spring to mind; take a good 40 odd years off that and I may just be convinced!  This is what I love about this track, it has a real authentic sound with its melodic doo-wop’s and jangly guitars.

Edgar William Jones, aka Edgar ‘Jones’ Jones was born in Liverpool and began his musical career as the bass player and singer-songwriter for the (also Liverpool-based) band, The Stairs.  Since then he has experimented with numerous sounds forming bands such as Free Peace, The Big Kids, the Isrites and Edgar Jones & the Joneses; whilst also playing as a session musician for Paul Weller, Saint Etienne, Ian McCulloch and Ocean Colour Scene!

Recorded on a portastudi0 donated by Johnny Marr, Edgar released his first solo album as Edgar “Jones” Jones in 2005 and titled this debut as ‘Soothing Music For Stray Cats, which received much critical acclaim including the Number One slot in the NME’s  100 Greatest Albums You’ve Never Heard’ (Feb 2012).

Incorporating elements of jazz, doo-wop, soul and R&B into this eclectic mix, it’s a really interesting collection of sounds but ‘Do Doh Dontcha Doh’ is definitely one of my favourites.  Listen above
