SONG OF THE DAY Anima! – You’re Alive

10561761_1631716287066096_3910638468582107536_nTrue to the namesake, Anima! are a Californian duo whose music represents their soulful inner selves in an expressive, original and exuberant style.  Releasing their first EP ‘Be Here Now’ at the beginning of this year, I fortunately stumbled upon them only a few months later, featuring the song ‘Breathe’ on my blog in July.

Forming in the US, the pair comprise of Vicente Espi, a producer from Cape Town, South Africa and Arielle Vakni, a singer-songwriter from California; together their sound combines a harmonious blend of layered vocals, tuneful melodies and experimental electronics.

Their music is hard to define for it skilfully weaves in and out of different genres, whilst structurally their sound strides the paths of the unusual and unconventional; this element giving them a very individual edge.

Happy to discover that their debut album is on its way and due out early next year, the pair have also just shared second single from this forthcoming release, titled ‘You’re Alive’.  With a spacious feel and steady beat, vocal harmonies soar with a weightlessness, urging us to think about why we “can’t take the time to enjoy all the space and the sound,” observing how we ”go through the motions” without focusing on the moment we are in.  Amidst hushed chorus and sweet-sounding verse comes a nourishing mindful message, all of which is expressed via their electronically alluring sound.

Purchase “You’re Alive” HERE, and keep watch for ANIMA!’s self-titled debut album to come.
