It’s all about transition for Melbourne’s Chet Faker as he enters into new musical realms, taking a step back from electronica and moving towards a far more organic, performance based sound. His second album is now in the process of being recorded at his home studio in Brooklyn, New York and, as described by the man himself, is “using a lot of real players to get that human groove that you can’t manufacture”. But this is not the only major change for Mr Faker (real name Nick Murphy), for there are big changes afoot, or should that be ‘aface!’ The famous beard has gone and boy does he look different!?
Chet Faker has also recently announced some new music, and for this he has paired up with his friend and London-based DJ, Marcus Marr. This teamwork being his latest in a string of recent collaborations including some very soulful new tracks with Melbourne band, The Cactus Channel (check this out on my page here).
His latest offering is the second track to come from his forthcoming EP ‘Work.’ Titled ‘Birthday Card’ this smooth track, coupled with its sleek vocals, does not disappoint, but with Chet Faker you come to expect a high degree of brilliance. Listen above.
‘Work’ EP is due for release on December 4th via Chet Faker’s own Detail Records
