SONG OF THE DAY Sid Sidney Wallace & The Belairs – Green Power

a4155245193_16It’s time to swing those funky pants! Germany’s very small but rather groovy rare jazz, soul and funk label are about to re-issue a great track by Sidney “Sid” Wallace on Dec 4th.

Memphis born Sidney Wallace was born in 1937 and began his career performing at talent shows and parties with various local artists.  Focusing on the new musical action that was unfolding in Memphis, he eventually became a contributing writer at Stax Records with the not-yet-famous Isaac Hayes and David Porter song writing team.  He continued to perform at many of the clubs in Memphis to supplement his income while attending junior college, later moving to St Louis to continue with his education.

Maintaining his passion for Wallace took to DJing whilst also creating several of his own recordings in his spare time too.  Today’s song is a groovy, funk track called ‘Green Power’ which, incidentally, had a very sought after b-side called ‘The Grinder.’  Listen above.
