SONG OF THE DAY Chris Thomas King – Hard Time Killing Floor Blues

FH010006It’s not often that I opt for a cover over the original but today’s song is just that.  Titled ‘Hard Time Killing Floor Blues’ and sang by the Louisiana-based blues musician Chris Thomas King, this version was first featured in the 2000 film ‘Oh Brother, Where Art Thou’ which also included Chris Thomas King in its cast as well as it’s soundtrack!

Kings version is a great rendition of the 1964 original performed by Delta blues singer, Nehimiah Curtis ‘Skip’ James.’  Hailed as ‘one of the seminal figures of the blues,’ Skip James has influenced many generations of musicians including Robert Johnson, Alan Wilson, Deep Purple, Eric Clapton, Beck…and the list goes on! With that in mind, I just couldn’t resist including this copy as well, it would be wrong not to! Check it out below.
