SONG OF THE DAY Whitney – No Woman

whitney-no-womanThis song is quite a mellow one for me but it was perfect for the moment with its soothing, laid back and ever-so-dreamy vibe; quite an ideal accompaniment for one who was spending a few precious solitary minutes watching the sun disappear into the horizon earlier.

Whitney are band from Chicago and have recently been signed to Indie label Secretly Canadian .  Comprising of  band members Julien Ehrlich (drums, vocals and former drummer with Unknown Mortal Orchestra), Max Kakacek (guitar/prior guitarist with Smith Westerns ), Ziyad Asrar (keyboards) and Will Miller (trumpet), the Chicago folk-rockers are due to release their debut album sometime later this year.

Ahead of this release the band shared lead single ‘No Woman’ last month which, in all its wistful glory, is a tale of break up, transition and the reluctance to let go.  Coupled with some wonderful intricate guitar melodies, unfurling strings, triumphant horns and delicate percussion, this is a wonderfully arranged piece of music led by Julien Ehrlich‘s delicate falsetto.  Listen above.
