SONG OF THE DAY The Sonics – Have Love Will Travel

The+Sonics (1)Today’s song is an interesting one because although it’s a cover, this is the version that has been the template for later renditions to follow.

Richard Berry first wrote and recorded ‘Have Love Will Travel’ in 1959, six years later garage-rock band The Sonics fired out their surf-punk interpretation of the same song.  Injecting the track with a slightly faster pace and driving rhythm, this version took on the song to a whole new rock-based realm where screaming vocals and stomping fuzz guitar were to change the way we listened to this song forever…and let’s not forget to mention the fantastic bellowing sax break, it’s an invigorating listen.

Other covers of The Sonics version includes The Black Keys, Paul Revere & The Raiders, with Bruce Springsteen covering it in some of his live shows, but The Sonics did it optimum justice as far as I’m concerned.  Listen above.
