SONG OF THE DAY Willie Jones – Where’s My Money

hqdefaultMichigan born Willie Jones (full name Willie Cornelius Jones) is a R & B singer-songwriter born in 1936.

Spending much of his teenage years singing in a choir, Jones joined a singing group called ‘The Five Willows’ in 1950, and by 1954 he became part of the R & B group the Royal Jokers.  Here, he spent the next 7 years recording with them, releasing one of their biggest hits ‘You Tickle Me Baby’ in 1955.

In 1957 their manager Al Green died leaving the Royal Jokers in a state of turmoil, and it was at this time that Willie Jones decided to leave the group in pursuit of a solo career. By 1959 he had released his first single ‘Fast Choo Choo’ and after that went onto release four solo singles on various labels, all of which were successful regionally.

Today’s song was probably one of his more famous pieces and was released in 1962, titled ‘Where’s My Money.’  Originally released on Mr Peacock Records this single is quite collectible if found on this label!

I’ve been listening to a lot of Nick Waterhouse  lately and can hear lots of his music in songs just like this Willie Jones track, it’s great!.  Listen above.
