SONG OF THE DAY Phoniks x Raashan Ahmad – That Feeling ft. Slimkid3 (Phoniks Remix)

a2375317205_10There hasn’t been a lot of sunshine outside my window today, just a whole lot of cloud, rain and hail! So what do you do if the sun won’t come to you? You go to the sunshine that’s what you do, and this is what today’s song feels like, like a little splash of summer!

Phoniks is  a hip-hop producer from Portland, Maine known for his vintage 90’s boom-bap production style and melodic jazz and soul samples.  At the tender age of just 23, the young producer has already released two full-length albums, ‘Return to the Golden Era’ (released in 2013 with Emcee Awon) and most recently ‘Stories from the Brass Section,’ with Houston Emcee Anti Lilly; also releasing 5 remix tapes between 2011-2014.

Phoniks has also been featured in various publications such as Earmilk, Respect Magazine, The Find Mag, The Word Is Bond, 2DopeBoyz,, and The Source.

His latest release is an EP titled ‘Above The Clouds,‘ which came out on the 11th of this month and is a collaborative release with Emcee Raashan Ahmad.  Combining electric piano loops, filtered basslines and lively drum breaks, these jazzy soundscapes have been likened to A Tribe Called Quest and De La Soul and are definitely loaded with that sunshiny feeling.

The track that caught my attention was the remix version of ‘That Feeling,’ I really like its lyrical rhythm and the way the free-flowing melody just glides into the ears like a warm summer breeze.  There is more than enough summer feeling packed into this song, all you have to do now is sit back and bask in its warmth.  Listen above.
