Brooklyn-based, Ghanian-American hip hop artist, Blitz the Ambassador is preparing to release ‘Diasporadical,’ his fourth studio album which has been over a year in the making.
Yesterday saw the release of new single ‘Heaven,’ an energised fusion of Afrobeat, Funk, Boom Bap which was produced by Blitz and features South African rapper and poet MC Fatboy, better known as Tumi Molekane.
The song, as indeed the whole album, is based upon Blitz’s personal experiences and picvots around his Ghanian roots, as he has described in a press release: “The album title Diasporadical was born out of these experiences. The radical notion that no matter how fragmented the African diaspora is, the influence of rhythm and spirituality remains largely the same.”
Blitz the Ambassador has developed a 3-part series that aims to dispel misrepresentations of African spirituality and to demonstrate the beauty of these traditions, these are definitely worth a watch and can be found here.
‘Heaven’ surges forward on a wave of free-flowing lyrics, vibrant horns and stomping beats, it hits hard with an invigorating punch and is one wake up call you won’t want to switch off! Listen above.
