Whether you like it or not, that time of year is almost upon us and Christmas is but a whisker away, so why not greet it with a large shot of funk and soul!
If I were to tell you that today’s song was first recorded in the 70’s I’m sure you wouldn’t question it for a minute, but this track is actually far more recent than that!
Originally released as a Christmas giveaway for the Hotpie & Candy record company in 1995, Santa’s Got a Bag of Soul and its original flip side Working on the Line is the rarest title of the Poets Of Rhythm/Hotpie & Candy catalog – only 250 copies were pressed!
Performed by Germany’s, The Soul Saints Orchestra (aka Poets of Rhythm), both songs on this 45 quickly turned into early deep funk classic with Santa’s Got a Bag of Soul now appearing on a Strut Records’ compilation titled, In The Groove at Christmas. For just under a fiver, this Christmas funk/soul compilation is an awesome deal and is brimming with 13 festive-funk classics.
So if yule could do with some festive funking, grab yourself a copy of this great compilation here.
….Oh and by the way, the guy on the cover is a young James Brown. Just in case you questioned how soulful this compilation really is!
