SONG OF THE DAY Bobby Ellis with Tommy McCook & The Supersonics – Sweet Lorna

This rare and rather alluring rocksteady single was released on the Treasure Isle label  Tommy McCook and the Supersonics band in 1967 with Norman Grant’s Matthew Mark Luke And John appearing on the flip-side.

Tommy McCook was a saxophonist and founding member of The Skatalites (also directing the Supersonics for Duke Reid), whilst Bobby Ellis was a trumpet player who went on to work with many reggae artists including Peter Tosh, Burning Spear and The Revolutionaries.  In this track Bobby Ellis sits in with the band and features on today’s song, Sweet Lorna.  Random info alert!: Both Bobby and Tommy attended the Alpha Cottage School and learned their instruments there, it is possible that their first meeting was at the school!  Listen and enjoy above.
