With two new albums due for release this May and June, London’s The Heliocentrics have been busy!
Today’s song appears on a soundtrack that the band have created to accompany the new film/documentary, The Sunshine Makers. This is a double bonus for me because, not only have I found a really great and funky song, but tonight’s viewing delights are also sorted! (the film is available on Netflix!)
From the makers of the Academy Award winning Searching For Sugarman’, The Sunshine Makers has been described as, “a real-life ‘Breaking Bad’ for the psychedelic set”, revealing the fascinating, untold story of Nicholas Sand and Tim Scully, the unlikely duo at the heart of 1960s American drug counter-culture. United in a utopian mission to save the planet through the consciousness-raising power of LSD, these underground chemists manufactured a massive amount of acid, including the gold standard for quality LSD!
As described on The Heliocentrics Bandcamp page: Two warriors for peace, a vat of chemicals and a LSD cookbook. What could possibly go wrong? ….I don’t know about you, but I’d like to find out and will definitely be checking this film out later!
The films original score has been written and performed by the Heliocentrics, and if this wasn’t a job tailor-made for the band, I don’t know what was! Their enticing blends of psychedelia, hypnotic beats and triptastic jazz are mind-bending enough on their own, couple this with a film all about LSD and what more could you ask for!!…. The perfect match!
Prior to the soundtrack’s release on June 30th, two tracks are currently available for preview, one being the album’s title track and today’s song. Check this out above and pre-order your copy of the soundtrack from The Heliocentrics Bandcamp page, here.
