SONG OF THE DAY Afous D’Afous – Nak Amahah

If bands like Tinariwen are your thing, Afous D’Afous are a six-piece desert blues outfit worth checking out!

Hailing from Tamanrasset in southern Algeria, the band are still relatively unknown in world music circles, whilst at home in the Tuareg community, they are without a doubt the most celebrated, famous, and in demand group, second only to Tinariwen.

Formed in 2015 by Kader Tarhanine, Afous D’Afous travelled to Algiers to record their full length debut Tenere, which was released last month via Portland, Oregon label, Sahelsounds.

Having only discovered them myself in the last hour, I was quite struck by first track Tenere, with its gorgeously rich bluesy intro and melodic vocal layers.  I’ll definitely be listening to more of this band in the near future…in the meantime join me in the glorious sounds of Nak Amahah above.
