SONG OF THE DAY Rare Monk – Phosphorescence

Rare Monk are an experimental indie rock outfit from Portland, Oregon whose sound hovers around the electro-rock genre.

Having only discovered them about half an hour ago, I can’t go into much more detail at present, but what I can tell you is that this 4-piece have just shared first full-length album A Future, with a couple of EP’s and a single preceding this release.

Second track Phosphorescence initially grabbed my attention with its rather enticing intro and I was intrigued to hear more hoping, as the song slowly unfolded, that it would continue with the same slinky feel…and it does!  Driven by a moderately upbeat rhythm, the melody has a mysterious and slightly more hushed feel as it entwines around this beat with fluid-like ease.  The contrast between the loud and the soft is effective, offering an air of mystery to the songs initial direction which is something I like because it kept me guessing!  Listen above.
