When it comes to funk and soul I can be really selective and have been known to spend hours sifting though random playlists in search of what I like. Today’s song is a product of one of those searches and man do I like it!
You Hit the Spot Baby does just that for me, its got it all, a funky fast-paced beat, glistening guitars and powerful soulful vocals that have this distinct bluesy edge, this is so nice and I could happily listen to all day!
Originally released in 1968 on Detroit’s Flaming Arrow label, You Hit the Spot Baby was performed by Gloria Walker & The Chevelles and featured as the B-side to Walking With My New Love. If you were lucky enough to stumble upon this rare soul 45 today, you could expect to fetch within the realms of £100 for it which is not bad at all! Enjoy and listen above!
