SONG OF THE DAY The Growing Concern – Edge of Time

Today’s little psych-tastic song was performed by Chicago garage band, The Growing Concern and appeared on their 1969 self-title album which was released via the American record producer/label owner Bob Shad (who also produced the first album by Big Brother and the Holding Company).

The Growing Concern were a short-lived venture for Bob Shad, however, and their emphasis on vocal harmonies, intricate guitar and organ work didn’t seem to have the same effect as Janis Joplin, Big Brother and their heavier r’n’b sound.  As a result Shad only allowed the group into the studio on a single occasion, dropping them from the label after this, their eponymous debut.  The album was brilliantly recorded and the band really deserved a better fate than the obscurity that Shad’s indifference consigned them to.

Which is why it’s good that nearly 50 years later their music is still revered and appreciated! Check out the fantastic Edge of Time above.
