SONG OF THE DAY Jonathan Richman & the Modern Lovers – Affection

Affection is a song that appears on Jonathan Richman & The Modern Lovers 1979 record, Back In Your Life.  The album has been aptly described as sweet, fun and honest and although I can’t remember where I read that now, I do recall thinking how perfect a description that was.

This live version of Affection is a good minute longer than the album version so not only do you have the bonus of a particularly warm and tender offering tonight, you get a lengthened, live version too.  I love the sincere feel in Richman’s lonesome lyrics as he yearningly describes how, “poor affection sits there standing in the corner, saying to itself, ‘I wish someone would give me something to do.’  Lyrics are hushed and Richman’s delivery is filled with a charming innocence as backing vocals croon and melodic guitars and drums gather in between verses…so lovely! Check it out above.
