Describing their 60’s-inspired sound as “God picking sunflowers,” The Babe Rainbow are a colourful and dashing trio hailing from Byron Bay. Colourful by name, this retro trio are most definitely colourful by nature and create a cosmic sound that falls somewhere between surf-rock and 60’s psychedelia. Influenced by the world around them, The Babe Rainbow brings the surf and the ocean into their sound with glistening sunshiny vibes beaming out from their songs.
The band’s self-titled debut was released early in June and was produced by Eric Moore from King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard. Taken from this album is Johny Says Stay Cool, a very funky track that is all about the fun…or should that be funk? This lively song is built to make you boogie with its infectious, bongo-fuelled beat, smooth sun-drenched vocals and stomping bass-riff (which reminds me so much of Lipps, Inc’s Funkytown!).
