The year was 1964 when the Strangeloves emerged under the guise of three Australian sheep farmers named Giles, Miles and Niles Strange. This was, of course, just a fabricated story issued in a press release to help capture the public’s imagination, but it baffles me to think how or why those in charge of publicity came to that conclusion! Needless to say the story didn’t exactly capture the public’s imagination, but The Strangeloves’ singles still performed respectably well, especially in the United States.
The band actually consisted of Bob Feldman, Jerry Goldstein and Richard Gottehrer, a trio who came together when a New York-based American songwriting production team created The Strangeloves in 1964. Their most successful singles were I want Candy, Cara-Lin and their 1965 classic, Night Time….which I happen to like the best! Check it out above.
