SONG OF THE DAY Sharon Jones & the Dap-Kings – Sail On

There’s nothing quite like a bit of Sharon Jones & the Dap-Kings to bring a beaming smile to my face and this video (although tinged with loss and sadness) also brings joy and vitality, encompassing all of what Miss Sharon Jones was about!

Sharon Jones & the Dap-kings’ final studio album, Soul of a Woman, was released on 17th November, virtually a year to the day after she passed away in November 2016.  The album is a lush, orchestral vintage soul masterpiece, brimming with energy and is a true testament to the life and career of this audacious artist.

Sail On was written by Dap-King Cochemea Gastelum and features on this final album, with a new accompanying video using archival footage of Jones recording the song with her band in Brooklyn’s Daptone Studios in the months before her death.  It’s a beautiful celebration of sound and vision! Watch it above and if you haven’t already checked out/purchased the full album, you can do that here.
