SONG OF THE DAY Edan – Making Planets (Ft. Mr. Lif)

So impressed by Cut Chemist’s Metalstorm , I have today been checking out the sounds of Edan Portnoy (better know as Edan) who collaborates and features on the track.

Hailing from Rockville, Maryland, Edan is a hip hop artist who has been creating music ever since he was at high school, purchasing his first turntables and mixing beats around about the same time.  Also inspired by his classmate’s rhymes Edan began writing his own songs and released his first album in 2002.

In March 2005 Edan released his second studio album Beauty and the Beat which features vocal contributions from  Insight, Percee P, Mr. Lif, and Dagh.  The album received critical acclaim, ranking number 392 on NME’s ‘500 Greatest Albums of All Time’ list with Pitchfork reporting how the “gravity of Edan’s lyrics and voice on ‘Beauty and the Beat’ is perhaps its most surprising element.  Edan has gone from a brainiac prankster to the Borges of rap”

I’d never heard the album until today but oh what a corker it is indeed!! I’ve just ordered myself a copy! This is the album that features today’s song Making Planets and you may recognise the sample behind it, well, I’m pretty sure you will recognise the sample…but you may not realise where this particular sample comes from? And that is another story which I will covering tomorrow, so if you want to know, check out tomorrows post!  In the meantime if you are enjoying Edan as much as me, then my work here is done! Enjoy!
