SONG OF THE DAY Things To Come – Sweetgina

The Things To Come were a 4-piece garage-rock band from Long Beach, CA.  The group’s original line-up consisted of lead singer Steve Runolfsson, drummer Russ Kunkel (who went on to become a top session man) and bassist Bryan Garofalo (also a future session man and a member of Glenn Frey’s band since 1982).

Unfortunately (and this was the case with many of the 60’s garage bands), The Things To Come only recorded a mere three singles in their brief lifetime      (Runolfsson was replaced after the first one) and the band remained relatively undiscovered until 1994 when a CD reissue entitled I Want Out unearthed this classic psych band once more! Wohoo!!

Sweetgina (yes, all one word!) was originally released in 1966 via Starfire Records and was the bands first release after they emerged from Southern California earlier that year! Check it out above and listen to its equally superb b-side, Speak of the Devil on my page here.
