SONG OF THE DAY Betty Davis – F.U.N.K.

American funk and soul sensation Betty Davis is known for being one of the most influential voices of the funk era and if you know her sound, you will no doubt agree wholeheartedly with that statement.

Also known for her memorable live shows, Davis grew up listening to B.B. King, Jimmy Read, Elmore James and many other blues musicians.  At just 12 years old she had written her first song, I’m Going to Bake That Cake of Love and at 23 she married Miles Davis, just one year after meeting him.  This union was short-lived, however, due to his temperament and the pair eventually parted ways; but not before Davis had left her mark on Miles Davis who had been greatly influenced by his wife’s love for fashion and popular music trends of the era.

Today’s song is bursting with raw funk, Betty Davis’ voice is definitely one force to be reckoned with!  F.U.N.K. appears on her 1975 album, Nasty Gal…Check it out above.
