SONG OF THE DAY Step By Step – Salt and Pepper

Milwaukee-born Gee brothers, Johnnie, Jerome and Dewitt got together with a few kids from their neighbourhood in the early 70’s to form the 12- piece soul band, Step By Step.

The release of their 1972 45,  Time After Time was the song that caught the attention of Brunswick’s Chicago office and four years later the label released their album, I Always Wanted to be in the Band.  Sadly, the record failed to sell in great volumes and the band disappeared into obscurity…that is until now! Numero’s flagship Eccentric Soul series has just reissued Time After Time, a four-track album that was released at the beginning of last month and this is where today’s wholesome slice of instrumental soul comes from! I have no doubt in my mind that Salt and Pepper will add a large dash of  snazzy spice to your Friday evening so check it out above and go steady on the salt!
