SONG OF THE DAY Joseph Malik – Mixed Combination

Internationally acclaimed vocalist, producer and DJ, Joseph Malik is set to return with a new album later this month.

Releasing via UK’s Ramrock Records, Diverse Part 2 is a record that is very much rooted in the present tense, whilst reaching back through the rich history of black music as it draws upon the sounds of blues and gospel, with nods to artists such as Sonny Boy Williamson, Robert Johnson and Jean-Michel Basquiat.

Combining the past with the present this collection of songs traces poignant people and places in black history, paying tribute to the sounds and spirit of that time as their memory and influence morphs into the here and now:  “This is an album very much about now and the way black music can descant on the past and yet embrace endless innovation. In the spirit of the old sixties DJs that were the ghetto mavens of their ear – ‘Cut the chatter, check out the platter.” (Bandcamp extract)

Available now, Mixed Combination is a strikingly powerful track with David Axelrod samples seamlessly woven into its rich soulful melody..I love it, I just love it! Check it out above and pre-order the album – due 20/9 – from here.
