SONG OF THE DAY The Birthday Party – Release the Bats

Continuing with this weeks Halloween theme (for this is my most favourite time of year), I have been delving deep into the darkness to source some sinister sounds to spook your soul!  Today’s tomb shaker was performed by The Birthday Party and it is my utter pleasure to introduce Release the Bats!

Issued as a single in 1981 through 4AD, this track was written by Nick Cave and Mick Harvey.  Achieving cult status following its release, Release the Bats became influential on the then-emerging goth-rock genre and peaked at number 3 in the UK Indie chart.  The only album is appeared on was the band’s final album, Junkyard, where it appeared as a bonus track…just in case you were wondering!! Rocking into the gloom with a very sinister bass line and Cave’s menacing howls, this track is a beast fit for any Halloween! I love it!
