When I describe a song as homely I use this description with great warmth, for songs such as these possess welcoming and familiar qualities, thus making the music much more instantly likeable. True to its title, Old Days is pondering and reflective, brimming over with dreamy introspection as it glides upon a shimmering jazz beat (just like Dj Shadows Dark Days), psych-fuelled guitars and wistful vocals. Its many layers painting a warm, vivid picture offering you the chance to step inside and feel all the many textures.
Originally from Dorset and now London-based, Skinshape, aka Will Dorey, is a multi-instrumentalist, producer and co-founder of the reggae reissue label, Horus Records. Also known for playing bass in the alt-rock band Palace, he has been writing and performing as a solo artist since 2014; a project that grew out of a love for old music and the way it sounded. Drawing influences from Soul, Funk, Psychedelic Rock, Dub and Hip Hop, Skinshape’s sound takes inspiration from 60’s, 70’s and 90’s.
Old Days appears on Oracolo, Skinshape’s second album which was released in 2015. Check it out above and listen/purchase the rest of the record from here.
