Eleven years ago Thee Oh Sees released Thee Hounds of Foggy Notion, a record that remains to be one of their most distinguished offerings to date. Better known for his high-energy psych-fuelled sounds, John Dwyer created this album with a completely different concept in mind. Swapping loud distortion and dramatic garage-rock for intimate shadowy (and mainly) acoustic songs, this has become one of the groups most beloved records.
Deleted a few years ago and now a highly sought-after and very highly priced album, there is good news afoot and if you haven’t already heard, Thee Hounds of Foggy Notion is to be reissued next month via John Dwyer’s label, Castle Face Records.
The first revamped song to be available from this upcoming re-release is the hauntingly lonesome, Golden Phones. Resonating like some lost and forgotten transmission, the creepy, meandering musical saw melody and lingering, effectively scant guitar makes for a deliciously eerie sound. To announce the reissue, Castle-Face co-founder Brian Lee Hughes has discussed the record in great depth, find this on the groups Bandcamp page and watch a live performance of the track below.
