SONG OF THE DAY Lee Fields & The Expressions – Make The World

With such prolific recording career under his belt, anyone lucky enough to see Lee Fields & The (sublime) Expressions play live will NOT be disappointed!  Nicknamed “Little JB” for his dance moves and vocal resemblance to James Brown, Lee Fields has been making music since he was in his late teens after he moved to New York to pursue a musical career.

He was writing songs as a teenager, releasing his first single in 1969 and has since worked/perfomred with an array of artists over the years, including the likes of, Kool and the Gang, Hip Huggers, O.V. Wright, Darrell Banks Little Royal and the one and only Sharon Jones to name but a few!  In 2014 Fields  even provided additional vocals for the James Brown biographical movie, Get On Up and, more recently, has provided his vocals & writing skills (and has been the featured artist) on records of such artists like El Michels Affair, Kraak & Smaak, Bliss n Eso and Wax Tailor.  Lee Fields still tours and performs with unfaltering energy and vitality, his smooth moves and thundering heartfelt vocals as big and bold as ever whilst humble in his approach he also still personally meets and greets his fans after shows with oodles passion and warmth… What a man is all I can say!

Today’s whopping great funk-fuelled track was released in 2014 via Big Crown Records and not only offers the most explosive burst of vibrant soul, but serves up an optimistic anthem for change; a message Fields hammers home as he urges us to “make some changes, changes that are ours to make.”  It’s a message perfect for our current climate as lyrics encouragingly cry out, “We can make the world better if we come together”.  Check it out above
