Delmar Allen Hawkins, a.k.a Dale Hawkins, was a singer-songwriter and rhythm guitarist often known as the “architect of swamp rock boogie.”  Born in 1936, Hawkins was playing in Shreveport, Louisiana clubs by the time he was 21, and although his music was influenced by the new rock’n’roll style of Elvis and the guitar sounds of Scotty Moore, Hawkins attained his own sound by blending this with the heavy blues sound of black Louisiana artists.

Hawkins had a long and successful career, recording numerous songs for Chess Records and in 1998, Ace Records issued a compilation album entitled Dale Hawkins: Rock’n’Roll Tornado.  In his later life he became a record producer and served as executive vice president for Abnak Records; Vice President for Bell Records and A&R director for RCA, also producing for R.L Burnside in the 1990’s!  Until tonight I’d never heard of Dale Hawkins, but now I’m lost in the swampy lure of the Everglades I intend to check out and discover more…Listen and enjoy…
