SONG OF THE DAY Wilson Pickett – Engine Number 9

Today’s track oozes slinkiness from every smooth chord and soulful beat throughout.  With punchy breaks, deep stirring bass and dirty guitar licks caressing every groovy bar,  Engine Number 9 is one fine figure of funk if ever I heard one!

The bass sinously struts  taking centre stage as the heel clicks of a cowbell keeps things rhythmically wired and Pickett’s vocals are the icing on this delicious slice of soul!  Engine Number 9 was released on Atlantic records as a 45 in 1970 and apart from grooving myself off the chair there isn’t much more needs to be said here! Listen and enjoy above.
