Californian psych band, The Human Expression are one of my favourite garage bands and even though they released only a handful of singles, for me they stand out from many others! Coming together in 1966, The Human Expression were a 6-piece group who collectively decided that their name would be perfect given their love for all things mystic and otherworldly. Their unique influences gave them a really distinct sound, proving that their ethereal qualities extended far beyond just their name!
It’s a real shame that they only released three singles between 1966/67 (alongside a handful of additional demo recordings between ), but this band succeeded in making quite an impression from the small about they did put out…take single, Optical Sound for example…what a great tune!..not to mention how The Human Expression features on so many garage/psych compilations…
After lots of practice and rehearsing for six months, the band secured a recording contract with LA’s Accent Records and released their demo as their first single, with Love at Psychedelic Velocity becoming one of their best known recordings. Every Night featured on the flip-side to this record and possesses all the haunting qualities that gave this band that ‘special something’….Check it out above.
