SONG OF THE DAY Jimi Tenor – Lover’s Bridge

In two day’s time Lassi Lehto, a.k.a Jimi Tenor, is to release a brand new single courtesy of Berlin’s Philophon label!  Teaming up and reuniting with Ghanaian drummer Ekow Alabi and German producer Max Weissenfeldt, this new 45 is a taster for an upcoming album which is due in October.  The Finnish multi-instrumentalist and composer delivers two offerings, of which are of striking contrast!

The A-side,Sugar and Spice, offers a breezy chunk of soul/funk sunshine which, I have to admit, is not something I’ll be rushing out to buy. Don’t get me wrong, its a good track but far too bright flamboyant for me!…but the flip-side!!! Oh the b-side!! This couldn’t be more different if it tried! Lover’s Bridge is edgy and cutting, hurling you into some kind of suspense-thriller film soundtrack, maybe even some old monster movie? Despite its gentle name, this mean instrumental is laced with tension and spiked with epic outbursts of blazing horns and penetrating keys which just keeps you guessing throughout.  The beat is skittish, adding more fuel to this fiery atmosphere and the melody is gripping.  This little monster that will eat you right up!! Check it out above and if you like what you hear, pre-order/order yourself a copy of the single from here.
