So, what do you make of this!?! Today I present you with Hard Headed Woman, a track released in 1972 on Jerma Records subsidiary label, Chytowns Records.
Performed by U.S Warren and a band called The Genghis Pea (what a name!), this track boasts the craziest drum’n’bass rhythm which is insanely good!!! In fact, yes, the song is great, but the beat just takes it to another dimension! Not to mention that grimy mid section which takes this standard soul 45 into a league of its own.
Hard Headed Woman was performed by singer, musician and recording engineer, Ulysses Samuel Warren, a.k.a U.S Warren. Accompanied by a band called The Genghis Pea, together they released a couple of singles as well as performing and releasing independently. Incidentally I’ve just discovered that Chytown’s/Jerma Records were formed by Warren himself and he released both his own works and a few others via his label over the 60’s-70’s!
In 2009 French Indie label, Sausage Records re-issued Hard Headed Woman, but this time featured it as the A-side, accompanied by The Drop Pt.1 . If you’re after a copy, this may be the way to go as the original is now fetching over £100! Check it out above.
