“The Bug is back and more hideous than ever – join us in a gawp at its iridescent shell, its alien mandibles…and the guts streaming from the wound….”
Four years ago John Dwyer and his band of Damaged Bug’s released third album, Bunker Funk. Self-described as being full of “urgent falsetto morbidities“, the record boasts to be the “most rhythmically adventurous offering yet!” Nobody quite mixes up experimental psych-rock like John Dwyer and with song titles such as Mood Slime, Liquid Desert and Ugly Gamma, this record comes straight out of cosmic-town!
If you have yet to wander into the orbit of this Damaged Bug album, I’d highly recommend the trip; it’s full of rhythmically entwined twists and turns as funk meets psych-rock on a galactic journey into otherworldly-yet-homely alien soundscapes! The album’s title track is one of my favourites! Check it out above! Bunker Funk was released on Dwyer’s Castle Face Records in 2017 and can be yours now for as little as a fiver if you head on over to their Bandcamp page here!
