SONG OF THE DAY Illya Bond – Atlanta Girl

Psych 45 ILLYA BOND Atlanta Girl/She Threw My Love Away HEAR Rare/Unknown?Today’s song took a couple of listens but I was intrigued from the onset!  With very little information to accompany it, this curious serenade is something of a mystery – and a one off too from what I can gather!

Atlanta Girl b/w She Threw My Love Away is a rare psychedelic soul nugget from 1970, recorded by an artist called Illya Bond. Released in 1970 on an unknown/no label, this is the only 45 put out by this mystery artist, but it’s really different, really energised and I like that!  Illya Bond’s vocals are so distinct and perfectly suited to the dramatically orchestrated kaleidoscopic melodies that accompanies both songs. His expression and delivery even reminds me a teeny bit of the great Screamin’ Jay Hawkins when he gets going and things get slightly theatrical and nicely animated!  I’m quite gutted that this was all he ever recorded!…but thankful to the person who uploaded their private copy of this rare promo 45.  Check it out above.
