SONG OF THE DAY Kunihiko Murai – Yajugari M-11 T-3

It’s only been a couple of days since I last posted, but it feels like ages! It’s good to be back!! Today I have a very very cool Japanese instrumental funk track to share with you!

Possibly issued on an album at one point, I can only find a copy of this song on a soundtrack I stumbled upon recently!  Entitled “Killing Melody – Instrumental Music From Japanese Pinky Violence Movies”, this slick offering is made up of 17 cinematic funk/soul nuggets, all taken from Japanese Pinky Violence movies of the late 60’s – early 70’s.  Compiled by UK label, Ethbo Records, the record is brimming with breaks galore, smooth flute’y grooves and funk-fueled meanders!…and I’ve just found a copy of the whole album uploaded onto Youtube, so I’ve pasted in below for an extra treat!!!

Featured track Yajugari M-11 T-3 was written/performed by Japanese composer/producer, Kunihiko Murai. Also the founder of Alfa Records, Murai Kunihiko played a leading role in laying the foundations for J-pop in the 1970’s. This included bringing the band Yellow Magic Orchestra to a global audience. It’s a real heady piece of waxy funk with heavy wah-wah’s and crisp drums! Yum!! Listen above and check out the whole album below!
