Today’s piece of mighty fine funk-shine comes all the way from the late 1960’s! Released on US label, ANLA Records (subsidiary of the Goldbland Record label), Soul Brothers Testify Pt​1 and ​2 made up both sides of a 45 put out in 1968!

Performed by Chester Randle’s Soul Senders, this single was one of only a very small handful of records released by this funk/soul outfit!  The Soul Sender’s ensemble appears on recordings under a few different names with only slight variations: The Original Soul Sender’s, Charles Randle’s Soul Sender’s (sometimes without apostrophes).  Charles Randle himself was a guitarist and performed with the likes of Bill Parker, Milford Scott and an array of lesser known artists. He featured in a variety of groups like Clarence Garlow & His Accordion and the Chester Randle Orchestra.

Soul Brothers Testify (Pt 1&2) was sampled in DJ Shadow’s Napalm Brain-Scatter Brain (the sample appears 1:15 mins in), which was taken from his 1996 Entroducing album.  The wonderful Tramp Records also featured both tracks on their 2014 compilation, The Funky Side of Goldband / Anla Records; which is a collection well-worth checking out too!!  Hope you enjoy!!!
