A curious cover I couldn’t help but share!
Wade in the Water has taken on many musical guises over the years, but this caught my ear earlier! Issued on New York’s Avante Garde Records, John Ylvisaker (accompanied by Amanda Ylvisaker) released this version in 1968.
The track appeared on a record entitled Follow Me which, from what I can gather, is a religious folk/jazz affair….I dare say this may be the only track I’m fond of, but I like this and I like the way both vocal lines call and respond as a jazzy piano tinkles in the background. It’s a religious folk song with a discernible edgy jazz/funk/gospel undertone! Check it out!
