If this song doesn’t embed itself into your head like the wiggliest ear worm ever, I will be so surprised!! This Latin/Afro-Caribbean sunbeam coats the senses with layers of warm, wandering percussive dreaminess!
For today’s musical installment we find two great minds joining together for some great new sounds. Not for the first time, DJ, multi-instrumentalist and record producer, William ‘Will’ Holland, a.k.a Quantic, has got together with Colombian guitarist, singer and composer Abelardo Carbono (“father of afro-caribbean psychodelia”)…and what a treat it is!!
A native of the Caribbean coast of Colombia, Abelardo Carbono achieved legendary status in his country’s storied ranks of musical icons by combining the homegrown sounds of cumbia with the chiming guitars of West African soukous. With the exception of a well-received compilation of songs from his 1980’s heyday, Carbono has been rarely heard from outside the packed dance halls he still commands in his hometown of Barranquilla.
Si, Si, Si is a single from Abelardo Carbono’s new album which will soon be released on Colombia’s PALENQUE Records. Recorded in Cali in Quantic’s Studio Sonido del Valle, this great musical union resulted in the recording of several tracks, among which was today’s delight as well as the afrobeat track La Pina Madura, which was released in 2019. I’m not too sure when the album is due, but if you keep your peepers on PALENQUE Records Bandcamp page, there should be more news posted on this soon – plus you can purchase today’s song from here too!
