SONG OF THE DAY The Painted Ship – Little White Lies

Primary Ahhhhhhh..what a tune!!! What an absolute corker this track is!!! In fact, out of all of my garage rock loves, The Painted Ship have penned a few of my all-time favourites! Play me some garage-psych and I shall be forever happy and content!

Hailing from Vancouver, Canader, The Painted Ship emerged in 1965. Initially suggesting they name themselves after the ‘animals’ that the inventor of the microscope found, they first came out as The Wee Beasties. At what point the name change happened, I’m not sure, but I kind of like The Wee Beasties!

Consisting of buckskin-clad Bill Hay (vocals), Bob Rowden (guitar), Ken Wain (keyboards) and Barry Rowden (drums), The Painted Ship regretfully only recorded only two 45’s in the late 60’s, releasing both on the London label.

Their first single, released in 1966, was today’s little belter entitled Little White Lies (backed with Frustration on the b-side). This was then followed a year later by Audience Reflections (From Polyana’s Dreamworld) (backed with And She Said Yes’ with on the flip-side).

I LOVE LOVE LOVE today’s song and love the way he whispers “White Lies”….It’s the little things that stick the most, eh?!! Enjoy! 🙂
