SONG OF THE DAY Danger Mouse & Black Thought – Belize (feat. MF DOOM)

PrimaryDanger Mouse and Tariq (Black Thought) recently released the official video for Belize. Shot by Danger Mouse and directed by UNCANNY, this simple black and white offering serves as a powerful tribute to the late MF DOOM, who also features on the song.

The song is taken from their latest album, Cheat Codes, which was released earlier this year and also happens to be Danger Mouse’s first hip-hop album in seventeen years – since his 2005 DangerDOOM collaboration with the late, MF DOOM! This record is also Black Thought’s only full-length collaboration beyond his music in The Roots!

I really like what they have done with the sample in this track! The melody from Belize is taken from a song called Peace In My Mind (check this track out at the bottom of this post) which was first released by a band called Federal Duck in 1968. I like how this piece of music has been seamlessly woven into Belize, fused together by those smooth, lush beats and cool vocal work. I always like discover a good sample in hip hop…. Check out the video below and enjoy!
