SONG OF THE DAY Slim Rhodes – Take and Give

Secondary, 2 of 2I just can’t get this bendy guitar lick out of my head today and love the way it defines and shapes this song. The rhythm contentedly ambles along, swaying as if in cosmic motion with the wavy melody and as vocals twist and curve they do so with a sinuous finish, sealing this rounded sound with firm perfection…..You may find yourself loving Take and Give immediately, or it may grow on you, but love it you will!..I hope!

Emerging in the early 1940’s, Ethamer Cletus Rhodes, a.k.a. Slim Rhodes, was a US country/rockabilly guitarist and vocalist. Recording for nearly two decades, Slim Rhodes performed with his band, Slim Rhodes and His Mountaineers and was signed to Sun Records in 1955 – where he recorded with the label for the next four years. Playing and singing a mix of country and rockabilly, Rhodes became a frequent member of the Sun tours and issued a handful of 45’s on the label, including today’s little ear worm!

Backed with the more contrasting sounds and more upbeat of Do What I Do, today’s song was issued in 1956… It’s a little smoothie and if you fancy downloading this little beaut’, you can grab yourself a copy from here!
