SONG OF THE DAY Adrian Lloyd – Lorna

PrimaryIf you look at a picture of Adrian Lloyd you may be fooled into thinking that this relatively clean-cut looking chap may have dished out a few pop numbers, but his music told a different story. He had one of those howly voices that lends itself perfectly to the rough, raw dimensions of garage rock mayhem.

Though, it is fair to add that when he was in a band prior to his solo work, his sound was orientated around a smoother surf sound, so he did start out a bit ‘softer’.

Adrian Lloyd was a drummer and, from what I can tell, started out in the early 1960’s in a band called Adrian & The Sunsets. As I’ve just mentioned, his band work took him into a surf-rock direction, but when the group disbanded less than two years later due to financial issues, he continued as a solo artist.

PrimaryWhat came out of his solo work was far more raucous and exciting, which I dare say is more than evident in today’s song!! I love the heavy drumming in Lorna and love how Lloyd’s frenzied vocals skim the fringes of the insanity as they scream and yelp all over the place!! I love the madness of it all and particularly savour the emphasis on the percussion, especially when it goes all “Wipe Out” about 1:40mins in!! It’s such a cool track!!

Issued on a label called Charger Records in 1965, Lorna was backed with the equally alluring treat that is Got A Little Woman. Im not quite sure what came after this single, if anything at all as there are only a couple of 45s mentioned in his Discography. Another massive shame that this artist didn’t put our more, but thank goodness he put out today’s little corker, it’s such a beauty!!! Enjoy!
